Maxwell Church Filled To Capacity For Last Rites Of Virgil Jennings

MAXWELL -- The Maxwell Methodist church was filled to capacity by friends and associates Saturday afternoon, August 16th at 2:30 for the final rites of Virgil Cleo Jennings. Rev. Oren B. Hall officiated.

Jean Mohler and Marian Shipman sang "Ivory Palaces" and "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied at the piano by Jean Dykstra.

A profusion of beautiful flowers made a background for the casket and the service emphasized the belief in the life eternal for which the life on earth is but the basic training.

Casket bearers were Kermit Griffith, J. T. Rickena, John Scott, Leonard Jacobson, Jack Evans and Emmett Scott.

Interment was in the Cambridge cemetery.

Obituary

Virgil Cleo Jennings, son of Sylvia and Harvey Jennings, was born on December 4, 1912, at Walnut Grove, Iowa. He passed on to his eternal reward at the age of 39 years, 8 months and nine days.

With his parents he moved to Cambridge in 1915. At the age of 15 he graduated from the Cambridge high school with the class of 1928. He later attended the University of Commerce in Des Moines.

He was united in marriage on June 25, 1937, to Miss Iva Margaret Crouthamel of Gilbert. To this happy family home were born two daughters, Sharon Lea, age 14 and Sondra Lynne, age 10.

He was a faithful servant of the Standard Oil company for the past 14 years. He served as agent in Dexter for a short while, but the last 10 years he was agent in Maxwell and community.

He was a very active personality in all civic affairs Virgil was a member of the city council, the Maxwell school board, officer of the Maxwell Methodist church, member of the I.O.O.F. and Masonic Lodges, the Maxwell Lions club and the Booster's club. From taking an active part in these civic affairs he took great pleasure. His greatest and proudest moments came however, in serving as Sunday school superintendent and board member of the Maxwell Methodist church. He accepted Jesus Christ, as his Lord and Savior and served Him well.

His parents preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departing his beloved wife and two daughters; two brothers, Kenneth and Guy of Cambridge besides countless friends and neighbors.

His departure is a keenly felt loss to the town and community.
