Services Held April 19 For Nelson Moses

Funeral services were held for Nelson Moses in the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell Friday afternoon, April 29. Rev. J. A. Ogden of the Collins E.U.B. church was the officiating clergyman and songs were furnished by Milton Hale and Arlene Johnstone who were accompanied by Madeline Summitt.

Casket bearers were Dale John, Paul Smth, L. H. Jacobsen, Verlin Gale, Joe Tiffany and Loren Davis.

Interment was in the Greencastle cemetery south of Mingo.

Obituary

Nelson Emery Moses was born in Rock Creek, Ohio Jan. 6, 1876 and died April 27, 1960 in the Nevada Hospital at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 21 days.

At the age of six years his mother died and he came to Greencastle to live with an aunt and uncle, Rev. and Mrs. Lanpram*. It ws in the Greencastle-Mingo neighborhood that he grew to manhood. At the age of 19 his father William Robert Moses [should be William Ralph Moses] died.

He was married to Carrie Lawrence on March 7, 1906 and soon after they established their home on a farm northeast of Maxwell, Iowa where he was living at the time of his death.

Mr. Mosses was preceded in death by his wife in December 1954 and his only son Ralph John in April 1939. Also a sister Hattie Goar in California and two brothers Emmett and George Moses in Ohio.

He is survived by three grandsons Richard Moses of Seattle, Wash., Darrell Moses of Collins and Robert Moses of West Chester, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Bradford Lee, Anthony Darrell and Meridee Joy, and Jane Ann Moses.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The mother of Nelson E. Moses was Miranda (Sturdevant) Moses. Her sister, Martha J. Sturdevant was married to Rev. Truman Adams Lampman. His mother died 28 December 1881 in Ashtabula County, Ohio and Nelson E. Moses went to live with Rev. and Mrs. Lampman in Greencastle, Jasper County, Iowa about 1882.
