Funeral Service for Ralph J. Moses

Special to the Journal:
Funeral services for the late Ralph J. Moses, of Collins, who passed away Wednesday forenoon, April 26 at the University hospital at Iowa City were held Friday afternoon, April 28, 1939 at 2 o'clock at the local Church of Christ with his pastor the Rev. L. F. Woolson of the United Brethren Church in charge, assisted by Rev. Turner of Maxwell. A quartet composed of Mrs. Lloyd Shickell, Mrs. A. Spivey, Supt. G. E. Holmes and Milton Hale with Mrs. Fred Meas as accompanist sang "Rock of Ages," "The Lord is My Shepherd," and "The White City." The beautiful floral offerings were arranged at the church and grave by Mrs. Milton Hale and Mrs. Clifford Geisler. The pallbearers were chosen from among the close friends of the deceased. They were Truman Streeter, Geo. Jacobs, Robert Johnson, Millard Ward, Clifford Geisler and Allen Struthers. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Ralph Jones Moses, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Moses of near Maxwell, was born at Greencastle, Jasper County, Iowa, October 17, 1908 and passed from this life in the University Hospital at Iowa City Wednesday forenoon April 26, 1939 at the age of 30 years, 6 months and 9 days. He moved with his parents to a farm near Maxwell when but a very small child and grew to manhood in the vicinity. He was married on March 14, 1930 to Miss Anna Stevens of near Collins and to this union three sons survive Richard, Darrell and Robert. He is survived by his wife, three sons, his parents and many more distant relatives. Throughout his married life he engaged in farming near Collins and made many fast friends because of the admirable traits that characterized his manhood. He was a member of the United Brethren Church at Collins and served his church and community in many ways. The deceased had been in failing health for a number of years and spent much time during the past five years in hospitals. Throughout his years and months of suffering he was ever patient and hopeful, thereby gaining the respect and love of those who were doing their utmost to restore his health.

The attendance at the services Friday spoke more than word of respect and love in which he was held in the community.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Shearer of Cumberland, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Shearer and family of McCallsburg and Norman Stevens of Iowa city were among the relatives from out of town attending the funeral services Friday for the late Ralph Moses.
