Funeral Services Held at Collins for Cynthia E. Harmsen

Collins, June 4--Funeral services for the late Cynthia E. Harmsen, who passed away Sunday, May 30, 1943, at 3:30 a. m., at her home southeast of Collins were held Tuesday at 2:00 o'clock form the Methodist church, with the Rev. C. Boos of Colo in charge.

Music was furnished by Mrs. L. M. Hall, Mrs. L. D. Holland, Miss Calla Wood and Mrs. O. H. Gearhart, with Mrs. Hugh Fertig at the piano. The songs were "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Beulah Land" and "Rock of Ages." The many lovely floral offerings were arranged at the church and grave by Mrs. Henry Dodd, Mrs. Earl Robinson and Mrs. O. N. Serbein. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery by the side of the husband who passed away in 1931. The pallbearers, longtime friends of the family, were Guy Elliott, Warren Kitchell, Henry Dodd, Ed Stratton, Earl Robinson and Gerrett Aikens.

The following brief sketch of the life of the deceased was read at the services by the pastor:

Cynthia E. Fiske, daughter of H. C. and Julia A. Fiske, was born near Eldora, Iowa, Dec. 25, 1854, and passed away May 30, 1943, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 5 day. Her early childhood was spent near Pella, Iowa. She attended Central college and later taught school in several rural communities.

She was married to Wm. Roberts of Audubon county, and to his union one son, Otis [should be Otice], was born. Later she married to Wm. Harmsen of Pella, and to this union two daughters, Minnie and Aura, were born. The Harmsen family has lived for nearly sixty years inn the vicinity of Collins, and Mrs. Harmsen passed away at the old homestead. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wm. Harmsen, who passed away Oct. 28, 1931. She leaves to mourn her passing, the son Otis W. Harmsen, two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Rumbaugh and Mrs. Aura Sheibley, and three grandchildren, Wm. R., Harriett C. and Minnie May Sheibley, all of Collins.

In her early life she joined the Methodist church, and has always lived a Christian life, ever ready and willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends in time of need.
