Mrs. John Sampson Laid To Rest In Zion Church Cemetery

Last rites for Mrs. John Sampson of Radcliffe were held Dec. 24th from the home at 1:30 and from Zion Lutheran church at 2 o'clock with Rev. Perry Heller of Zion church and Rev. A. E. Nelson of the Bergen Lutheran church in Roland in charge. At the home Pastor Heller opened with prayer after which Randall Hatteberg sang a solo in Norwegian "Den Store Vide Flock Ve Ser" a favorite of the deceased. Pastor Nelson continued with scripture reading and prayer.

Mrs. F. V. Beroan and Mrs. Otis Fosse sang a duet "Good Morning Up There, Good Night Down Here." Rev. H. N. Bakke, her former pastor, brought a short message of comfort. Rev. Perry Sampson of Kanawha, a nephew of the deceased, assisted also.

Pall bearers were grandsons, Harold Sampson of Minneapolis, Minn., Earl Sampson of Austin, Minn., Earl H. Miller of San Diego, Calif., Juel and John Jacobson of McCallsburg and James Jacobson of Ames.

Engerid Huse (Enderson) was born Dec. 12, 1861 in Kinsarvik, Hardanger, Norway, the daughter of Endre and Sigrid Huse and the youngest of five children. She passed away on Dec. 21, 1954 at the age of 93 years and nine days. She was baptized and confirmed in Norway and grew to womanhood there.

In 1883 she and her mother migrated to America, settling in Lee, Ill. In a short time they with two sisters and families, Michaelsons and Swensons came to Iowa. On March 31, 1884 she was united in marriage to John Sampson and settled on the farm where she was still living after 70 years. To this union were born eight children, five boys and three girls. Her husband and three children preceded her in death. Also three sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.

Surviving are the sons Sam Sampson and Silas Sampson of Radcliffe, Johnny Sampson of Austin, Minn. and two daughters, Mrs. Inga Jacobson of McCallsburg and Mrs. Sadie Pickett of Radcliffe. Eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren survive as do a number of relatives and a host of friends.

She had enjoyed fairly good health until March of last year. She was a kind and loving mother and dutiful wife and will be greatly missed by her family, relatives and a host of friends.

There were quite a number of floral gifts as well as many memorial gifts.
