Last Rites Held For Mrs. Thomas Thompson

Roland -- Funeral services were held from Mrs. Josephine Thompson Sunday afternoon at Salem Lutheran church with Rev. Olaf Holen officiating. Misses Solvay Stole and Mary Ann Bakke sang "Saved by Grace" and "Rock of Ages" at the church.

Pallbearers were Stanley Thompson, Jim Thompson, Dale Chelsvig, Vern Nelson, Douglas Meyer and Darrell Meyer.

Interment was in the Roland Cemetery.

Obituary

Mrs. Josephine Gurine Thompson, daughter of the late John and Marie Brekke, was born at La Crosse, Wisconsin December 25, 1881 and passed away Wednesday December 22, at the Story City hospital, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 27 days.

She was baptized in the Lutheran church at La Crosse, Wisconsin and was confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland by Rev. C. C. Holter, October 4, 1896.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Thompson, February 16, 1901 in Roland. They farmed for ten years near Roland and then moved in a farm south of McCallsburg where they lived for 23 years. The last 15 years they have lived in Roland and have been members of Salem Lutheran church.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband Thomas Thompson; five sons, Julius and Maurice of Roland, Earl of McCallsburg, Herman of Ottumwa and Francis of Maxwell, four daughters, Mrs. Oscar Chelsvig (Judith) of Roland, Mrs. Clifton harrendorf (Myrtle) of State Center, Mrs. Oren Meyer (Bernice) of Marshalltown and Mrs. Earl Bernard (Lillian) of State Center. Also 26 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, two brothers, John of Delavan, Minnesota, and Jacob of Iowa Falls, one sister, Mrs. Ed Shope of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her son Sanford of McCallsburg, her parents, one sister and one brother.
