THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 30, 1959, page 1, column 4. "OBITUARY - NICHOLAS LEO THIELEN. - Nicholas Leo Thielen, son of Matthew and Mary Thielen, was born July 6, 1904 at Exira, Ia. He departed this life April 24 at Story County Hospital in Nevada, at the age of 54 years, 9 months and 18 days. He grew to manhood in and around Exira where he graduated from high school with the class of 1922. After graduation he lived in and around Exira, with the exception of one year in California. In 1934 he moved to the Maxwell vicinity where he was engaged in farming. In 1948 he moved to town and had been employed by the Reuben H. Donnelley Corp. for the past nine years. On April 23, 1938 he was united in marriage to Eva E. Lowe. To this union two children were born, a son Larry Nicholas age 20, now a student of the College of The Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. and a daughter Patricia Lou age 18 now employed by Iowa Guarantee in Des Moines. Besides his wife and two children, he is survived by four sisters, twin sister, Mrs. Cecelia Wolf, Mrs. Jean Ballard, Mrs. Clara Rasmussen all of Exira and Mrs. Kathryn Shaw of Altoona. Two brothers, Jacob and Bernard of Exira. His mother and father preceded him in death. Nick will be remembered by his family as a loving father and husband, a good provider and one who put his family first. He will be remembered by his many friends as a good neighbor and always willing and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Funeral services were held at St. Marys Catholic Church in Elkhart Monday morning, April 27 at 9 o'clock, with Father Conley officiating. Interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery at Farrar. Casket bearers were Kenneth Brouhard, Hamlin Leonard, Jerry Tyler, John Fry, Billie Joe McIntire and James Meyers. Honorary bearers were Kenneth Nelson, Robert Corbin, Paul Dalph, Keith Cherryhalmers, Jerry Hines and Dale Allen. Friends and relatives attending from a distance were from Exira, Des Moines, Waterloo, Nevada, Auburn, Ames and Chicago, Ill."
