Lorraine Halterman
June 24, 1915, to Feb. 21, 1996Lorraine Halterman, 80, of Des Moines, died of a heart ailment, Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines.
She was born to Ross and Neva (Bullock) Poynter in Rockford, Ill., on June 24, 1915.
She was a graduate of Maxwell High School in 1934. On May 20, 1945, she married Leon M. Halterman at Maxwell. She was retired from working in food service at Iowa State University for more than 20 yeas.
She moved to Ames in January of 1954 and to Des Moines in the summer of 1991. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Women of the Moose, Mended Hearts, the Maxwell Alumni Association and Mercy Hospital Heritage Club.
Survivors include three sons, Colin Halterman of Peachtree City, Ga., David Halterman, San Francisco, Calif., and Stephen Halterman, of Des Moines; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 18, 1981; her daughter, Leann Irwin in 1988; a brother Elmer Rothrock; and her parents.
Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at Adams Funeral Home, Ames, with Virjama Hamilton officiating. Burial in the Woodland Cemetery at Iowa Center.
