Cassie Marie Hemping
Aug. 29, 1989 (sic), to Feb. 22, 1996Cassie Marie Hemping, 97, of Manson, died Feb. 22 at Stewart Memorial Hospital. Cause of death was not listed.
She was born to Franklin Raymond and Clara Belle (Johnson) Wilson in New Albany Township of Story County on Aug. 29, 1898.
She graduated from Colo High School in 1915 and in 1917 received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. She taught school regularly until 1925 and discontinued teaching while her daughters were growing up. In 1948, she received a Special War Emergency Certificate and taught continually at the elementary level at various Calhoun County Schools until mandatory retirement from Manson Independent Schools in 1964. She then graduated from Buena Vista College and in the fall of 1964 began teaching at the Palmer school until retirement in 1971.
She married William Silas Hemping on Dec. 31, 1919. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was active in Golden Eagles. During her retirement she enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader until her death.
Survivors include her grand children Dale Dahlke of Ijamsville, Md.; Darrel Dahlke of Bloomington, Minn.; Sheryll Dahlke of Atlanta, Ga. Jerry Dahlke of Phoenix, Ariz.; Denise Koncelik of Wichita Falls, Texas; and Kristen Reynolds of Berlin, Germany; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1955 and her daughters, Jean Dahlke of Manson and Janet Reynolds of Ames.
Services were held at Grace United Methodist Church, Manson, on Monday, Feb. 26 with the Rev. Leslie H. Calhoun officiating. Burial was in the Colo Municipal Cemetery, Colo.
