THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 12, 1903, page 1, column 6. "Obituary. - Esther Bates was born in Palestine, Iowa, January 24, 1867. She moved with her parents into a community seven miles south of Cambridge where she resided about twenty-five years. During a visit to Williams county, Ohio, she formed an acquaintance with Joseph Sutton, to whom she was married November 19, 1891. They remained at that place for four years after which she, with her husband, came to Iowa, finally making their home in Maxwell. Here Mrs. Sutton passed away February 8, 1903, being thirty-six years and fourteen days old. She leaves her husband and three little boys, Orville, Hiram and Francis, to mourn the loss of mother. Mrs. Sutton with her husband united with the M. C. church in Ohio, where they still retain their membership. They were baptized in Eagle creek, Williams county, Ohio. Mrs. Sutton was a devoted wife and loving mother, having her whole heart centered in the interests of her home. The funeral was preached at the home Monday, February 9th, at 2:00 p. m., Rev. G. E. Roberts being in charge. Thus ends the earthly career of one who had done a noble work and she has now gone to reap the reward of a well spent life. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in this their sad affliction."
