DEATHS

Final rites were held Wednesday, Nov. 21 at the Cambridge United Methodist Church for Richard David Ballard, 54, who passed away at Cambridge November 18, 1973.

Reverend William Overhulser officiated at the services. Mr. Jim DeHoet sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Going Down the Valley One by One" with Mrs. Guy DeHoet as organist. Mrs. Marge Johnson and Mrs. LaVona Cairns were in charge of the flowers.

Casket bearers were Basil Fry, Danny Stowe, Leland Gardner, Steve Mullins, Russell Denton, and Raymond Kahler. Final interment was in the Cambridge Cemetery with military services at the grave by the American Legion.

Richard David Ballard, son of Laura E. and William Ballard was born near Radcliffe, Iowa on January 31, 1919 and passed away at Cambridge on November 18, 1973, at the age of 54 years, 9 months and 18 days. He moved to Maxwell in 1928 and graduated from Maxwell High School in 1936. He lived there until he entered the service in World War II, he served with the Marines and received the purple heart for wounds on Iwo Jima.

He moved to Cambridge in 1947 and was a local business man for twenty-five years, until he retired in May of this year due to failing health.

he was a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge and served on the Cambridge Fire Department for 20 years. He was also a member of the Cambridge United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, Richard David Jr. of Newton, Todd William at home, three step daughters, Mrs. Judy Miler, Mrs. Nancy Hidlebaugh, both of Cambridge and Ruth Ann at home, and three step grandchildren. Also two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Meyers of Des Monies and Mrs. Mabel Link of Maxwell, three brothers, Floyd of Marshalltown, James of Nevada and Harold of Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
