DEATHS

MRS. J.E. JOHNSON

Word has been received of the death in Cedar Rapids of Mrs. J. E. Johnson*, 92, at a nursing home there where she had lived the past seven years. Former Slater residents, she was Ida Walker, daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. Torkel Walker. Johnson*, also a Slater native, managed the Slater Lumber Yard from 1912 to 1920 when they moved to Cedar Rapids where he worked for a lumber company.

Funeral services were held at Weiler Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Attending the services from this area were two nephews from Ames, Cecil Larson and Sherrill Freed and their wives and also her sister, Mrs. O.F. Freed, formerly of Huxley and now of Colfax and her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Underwood of Colfax.

Surviving Mrs. Johnson are two daughters, Cecelia of Denver and Helen of Sioux City an sons, Robert, Ernest and Marion of Cedar Rapids, Donald of Kansas City and Frederick of California; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. O.F. Freed and Theresa Walker of Colfax and other relatives.
