Clarence Gregg

Funeral services for Clarence T. Gregg were held Friday morning, Oct. 5 at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman at 10 a.m. Rev. Reuben Evermand was n charge using Romans 6:23 as his text. Dennis Wermersen was the organist and accompanied the soloist, Mrs. James Kruger. Grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers: Dwight Muench, Clayton Gregg, Wayne Gregg, David Gregg, Daniel Gregg and Roger Gregg. Interment was in the Clarinda Cemetery in Clarinda.

Clarence Turner Gregg, 78, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. He was born June 11, 1895 at Barnsville, Ohio to Wesley L. and Myrtle Gregg. He was raised on a farm and moved to Ohio to southwestern Iowa with his parents.

He enlisted in the army in 1917 and spent the latter part of 1918 in England and was discharged in December of 1918 from the 361st Aero Squadron, having attained the rank of seargent.

Clarence returned to farming December 30, 1920, and was married to Gertrude Swisher of Clarinda. He farmed near Clarinda until 1931 after which they farmed in the Alleman and Slater area until his retirement to Slater.

Surviving are his wife, Gertrude, four sons, Delmyr of Windom, Minn., Wilfred of Mabel, Minn., John of Houston, Tex. and Charles of Slater, one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Mima) Hessel of Monroe, Wis., 16 grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, Claude of Springfield, Mo. and Wesley of Des Moines and two sisters, Mrs. Dan (Mary) Klempnauer of Mason City and Mrs. Clifford (Sylvia) Evans of Madrid.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two sons, Thomas killed in an accident in 1957 and Willis who died in infancy.
