Mrs. Dale Groomes, Former Nevadan, Is Dead At Age of 42
Mrs. Dale (Hazel) Groomes, 2208 Furman Drive, Ames, died this morning at 12:15 at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames where she had been a patient for the past month.
Mrs. Groomes, 42, was born December 10, 1923 in Nevada, the daughter of Arthur and Vernie Shaffer. She was a lifelong resident of Story County and an Ames resident for the past five years.
She was formerly employed at Bourns, Inc. in Ames and later at the North Grand Rexall Drug Store.
She was married to Dale C. Groomes April 20, 1941 at Gallatin, Mo. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Ames.
Survivors are her husband, Dale of Ames; her mother, Vada and three sons, Thomas, Bob and Don Groomes, all of Ames; two brothers, Earl N. Shaffer of Cresco, Iowa and Glen A. Shaffer of Lime Springs, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Quam of Oelwein; Mrs. Doris Williams of Nevada and Mrs. Arlene Pfantz of Melbourne. She was preceded in death by her father Arthur who died in 1952.
Funeral services will be held from the First Methodist Church, 6th and Kellogg in Ames Saturday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Harold E. Harryman officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery.
The body will remain at the Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada until 11 a.m. Saturday morning when it will be taken to the church to await time of funeral services.
A memorial fund has been established. Memorials may be left at the First Methodist Church in Ames or the Nevada National Bank in Nevada, Iowa.
