Mrs. Oscar Olson Buried at Palestine

Huxley, Nov. 13--Funeral services for Mrs. Oscar J. Olson were held Friday afternoon with a brief service at the home at one o'clock. Rev. Peder Buland spoke briefly and Jesse Olson of Jewell sang a solo "It is well with my soul."

Services were held at the Palestine Lutheran church at 1:30 p. m. The song "Shall we meet beyond the river" was sung by the choir. Rev. Peder Buland read the 23rd Psalm which was a favorite Psalm of the deceased. A vocal trio "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" was sung by the Misses Marjory, Grace and Frances Berhow. Rev. Buland preached on the 21st verse of the 1st chapter of Job. "The Lord gave and Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord." A Norwegian vocal solo "Jesus du kjander jo dine" was sung by Miss Esther Sydnes. Rev. Roy Olson of Minneapolis, a brother-in-law of the deceased, preached and he had chosen the same text as Rev. Buland, Job 1:21. He also spoke on a part of the 103d Psalm. The song "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" was sung by the choir.

The floral offerings were unusually beautiful and numerous. Missions which were remembered with donations in her memory, from the relatives were, the Prison Mission, the Eskimo Mission and the Santal Mission. The Auxiliary of the Bethlehem church at Slater and the Ladies Aid society of the Palestine church donated $5 each to the Missions.

Pall bearers were Leonard and Ben Tesdell of Des Moines, Sanford and Carl Tesdell, Thor Mason and Walter Berhow. Interment was in the Palestine cemetery.

Bertha Louise Lee Olson was born in Sjold, Norway, June 26, 1884. Her parents were Madeline and Torjels Lee. She came to America at the age of 17 and made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Severt Tesdell for several years.

On July 6, 1907 she was united in marriage to Oscar J. Olson To this union were born four children Mrs. Raymond Rimathe, Mrs. Truman Brown of Slater, Evelyn and Robert at home. Death came Nov. 4, 1935 after a prolonged illness of almost a year. Surviving her besides her immediate family are her father who lives in Norway, five brothers, Mandius of near Sheldahl, Torel of Napier, Carl of Boone, George of Sanborn, Minn., and Severin of Sioux City. She reached an age of 51 years, 4 months and 9 days.

Among those present at the funeral from a distance were Rev. and Mrs. Roy Olson of Minneapolis, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. James Olson of Lakefield, Minn., Mrs. Rasmus Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Johnson of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Thompson and daughter Arlene of Ft. Dodge, Morris Thompson of Clear Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sampson, Harold, Orville and Wilma of Armstrong, Mr. and Mr. Carl Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Severt Saveraid of Boone, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ritland and children, Mrs. Emma Johnson, Johnnie Severeid of Story City, Mr. and Mrs. Mandius Lee of near Sheldahl, Mr. and Mrs. Torel Lee of Napier, Severin Lee of Sioux City, Miss Ivadell Tesdell, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Tesdell, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Tesdell, Mr. and Mrs. Londahl, Mrs. Westre and daughter Marie, Miss Odella Birkestrand of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs J. O. Saveraid of Elkhart and possibly others.
