THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 23, 1915, page 1, column 5. "OBITUARY - George W. Randol was born March 29, 1835, in St. Joseph county, Michigan, and died December 20, 1915, at the home of his son, Charles Randol, near Maxwell, aged eighty years, eight months and twenty-one days. In his young manhood he came with his parents to Iowa, locating on a farm near Peoria, they being among the first settlers of the country. Deceased served three years in the Civil war, being a member of the Fortieth Iowa Infantry. On December 31, 1866, he was united in marriage to Lydia A. Hutson, and to this union were born five children, viz: Edwin H., now deceased; James D., of Cogswell, No. Dak.; Charles D., of Maxwell; John D., of Cogswell, No. Dak., and Mrs. Mary E. Miller, of Siren, Wisconsin. His wife died February 26, 1906. All of the surviving children were present at the time of his death. Excepting a few years when deceased lived in Nebraska, and later in North Dakota, he spent most of his days in this community. He united with the Methodist Protestant church at Peoria under the pastorate of Rev. John Smay. On going to Nebraska he united with the Baptist denomination, but returning here he again place his membership at Peoria. He leaves to mourn besides his children, two brothers and one sister, viz: John Randol, in Oklahoma, David, a twin brother, in Parkfield, California, and Mrs. Esther Townsend, of Newton, Iowa. Also twenty-five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Peoria church December 21st, conducted by Rev. C. J. Nutt, of Des Moines. He was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the beautiful Peoria cemetery."
