DEATHS

Mrs. Severie Parker

Funeral services for Mrs. Severie Parker, 93, of Roland were held Friday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at Bergen Lutheran Church, Roland with Pastor Howard Lybeck officiating.

Music was furnished by the Triple Trio of the Bergen Church and Jim Hanson accompanied by Mrs. Portia Eischen, organist. Burialwas in the cemetery at Roland. Pallbearers were Richard Eggland, Twedt Hanson and Gale Eggland of Roland; Harley Hanson of Ames, William Hanson of Clarion and Roy Berwick of Marshalltown.

Severie Parker, daughter of Ida and Ole T. Hanson, was born in Story City of October 28, 1879 and she passed away May 15 at the Story City Memorial Hospital after a six weeks stay there.

Severie was baptized and confirmed in St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City and, when her parents moved to Roland in 1902, she became a member of Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland where her great grandfather, and grandfather were charter members. For many years she taught Sunday School here.

In 1896, she was a member of the first graduating class of the Story City High School. Following graduation, she taught school in Huxley and Story City, and then attended Normal School at Cedar Falls (now U.N.I.) for a year and two summers. That was in 1901. She then taught in the primary grades in Roland for four years. Her next position was in Enid, Oklahoma.

In February of 1906, Severie went with friends and relatives to homestead in New Mexico, where she met and married William H. Parker on March 2, 1910. They spent their married life in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico and when her husband passed away in 1918, she returned to Iowa.

After attending Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, she went to work for the First National Bank in Roland. She was employed by Roland Banks for more than 25 years before retiring at the age of 72 years, in 1951.

Mrs. Parker was active in church, social and civic affairs. She was a member of Bergen Ladies Aid Society, American Legion Auxiliary and O.N.O. cub and took her turn as president of these organizations.

Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Amy) Hoversten and Mrs. Adolph (Myrtie) Eggland, and two brothers, Otto Hanson and Henry Hanson.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Art (Irene) Johnson, Fullerton, California and Lillian Hanson of Roland, one brother, Elmer Hanson of Roland; thirteen nieces and nephews.
