Elmer S. Mortvedt

Funeral services for Elmer S. Mortvedt were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City, Wednesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. with Pastor C. A. Gisselquist officiating. Miss Louise Olson was organist Mr. and Mrs. Thelmer Swenson sang a duet of two special songs. Committal was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Six grandsons were pall bearers: Roger, Jeff and Jeffrey Mortvedt, Dean Satre, David and Mark Anderson.

Elmer S. Mortvedt, son of Oscar and Serina Mortvedt, was born on the family homestead near Radcliffe on November 5, 1891. He passed away at Story City Memorial Hospital on Monday, October 20, after an illness of a few hours.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at the North St. Petri Lutheran Church by Pastor O. P. Vangeness.

On October 29, 1919 he was united in marriage to Selma Ose. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive: Mrs. Vern (Sylvina) Satre of Story City; LuVerne Mortvedt of Ellsworth, Mrs. Wilford (Lillian) Anderson of Adel and Everett Mortvedt of Roland.

The Mortvedts farmed in the Ellsworth Community until 1947 when they retired from the farm and moved to Ames. In 1956 they purchased a home in Story City and lived here the rest of his life.

Mr. Mortvedt is survived by his wife, Selma, and their four children, eighteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, also two brothers and one sister Ben Mortvedt of Story City; Palmer Mortvedt of Folsam, Calif., and Mrs. A. R. (Selma) Stokka of Des Moines. His parents and six brothers preceded him in death.
