Funeral Services Held For Peter Apland
Slater--Funeral services for Peter Apland were held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethlehem Lutheran church in Slater with Rev. P. E. Onstad in charge.
At the home Mrs. Harold Olson of Ames sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and Rev. P. E. Onstad read from II Cor. 5. At the church, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Olson sang "Have Thine Own Way Lord," and "Behold a Host." Pastor Onstad preached from Gen. 5:24 on the theme "Walking With God."
The floral tributes were beautiful and there were many gifts to Missions in memory of Mr. Apland.
Casket bearers were Frank Roznox Jr., Paul Jones, George Jones, Thor Mason, George Christianson and E. B. Tweedt.
Interment was in the Fjeldberg cemetery.
Obituary
Peter Apland, son of Ole and Ann Apland, was born September 22, 1873 on the Apland homestead near Cambridge and passed away at his home in Slater on Oct. 18 at the age of 79 years.
He was one of 10 children of which two brothers survive, Martin of Everett, Washington, and Anfin of Des Moines.
Mr. Apland spent his entire lifetime in Story county.
On November 22, 1898, he was united in marriage to Ida Hovland. To this union was born four children, Mrs. Silas Larson of Ames, Mrs. Ralph Hitz of Des Moines, George Apland of Muscatine and Mrs. Dale John of Maxwell.
He was baptized in the Fjeldberg Lutheran church and later became a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church of Slater.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, four children, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.
