Orth in the Grace Evangelical church in Story City On May 29th, 1923 he was united in marriage to Ruby Odessa Olson and was received into membership in the St. Petri Lutheran church by Rev. W. B. Scarvie Three children were born to this union: Rozella, Derral and Kenneth.

Burnice continued to farm the home place until the time of his death. He was a quiet; friendly and trustworthy neighbor and good father to his family. In his church work he carried his responsibilities both in and out of office conscientiously. He lived his faith in daily life.

It was not until this fall that the first effects of illness showed itself in Burnice's health. A major surgery was performed at the Deaconess hospital in Des Moines during December and he returned to his home just before Christmas. It soon was apparent that health would not be recovered. He passed away quietly at his home on Monday morning, January 20th at the age of fifty two years, nine months and twelve days.
