She was the third child of James and Emmaline Dawson. In her early teens the family moved to another farm near Menlo, Iowa, and she lived there until her marriage to Orion Culver. After a few years in Menlo the young couple moved to Marne, where Mr. Culver was a barber. Two years later they moved to Maxwell, where he continued the barber trade in the shop under the Maxwell State Bank. To this union were born four** children, Mable, Carl, Homer and Esther. Her husband passed away when the children were quite small and after three years she was united in marriage to Robert Oxley of Maxwell. To them was born a daughter Annie, who died at the age of five years, Mable and Carl who also preceded her in death. She was again widowed in 1930 and lived alone until about six years ago when ill health forced her to give up her home and go to live with her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Otto, at Baxter. She spent one year of this time with her granddaughter, Mrs. A. L. Nuzum, in Baxter. At the time of her death she was 86 years, 6 months and 27 days of age. She is survived by a brother, Newton Dawson of Kalispell, Montana; a sister, Mrs. Emma Morrison of Reno, Nevada; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Otto of Baxter and s son Homer Culver of Vergas, Minnesota who was unable to come because of weather and road conditions. There are eleven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. During her lifetime she raised her own four children, three grandchildren left by her oldest daughter and gave a home to two grandsons left by her oldest son. Her life was one of self-sacrifice and hard work but her radiant pioneer spirit and calm philosophy of life was an inspiration to her whole family and those who knew her. Services were held Wednesday March 21, at the Cooper-Moore funeral home at 2:00 p. m. Rev. Thomas D. Dixon of Baxter had charge of the services.
