THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 16, 1899, page 4. "OBITUARY - George A. Oxley was born Nov. 9, 1878, in Story county, Iowa. He lived with his father near Peoria, until May 1897, when he went to Kansas, in hopes of benefiting his health, locating at Mayetta, where he remained until his demise, March 8, 1899. He had suffered from la grippe and lung trouble for four weeks, until death released him from his sufferings. He leaves a father and sister to mourn their deep loss, the mother having been called to her reward Nov. 6, 1894. He had greatly endeared himself to the young people of Mayetta, and was an associate member of the Epworth League. The young people of that place have written a very touching and beautiful tribute of loving appreciation and sent the same to the father and sister. To show their appreciation of the worth of the deceased, the young people of Mayetta accompanied the remains to the depot and sang very feelingly an appropriate song. The remains were brought here, arriving Thursday morning and funeral services were held in the C. P. church Friday morning, conducted by Rev. W. E. Howe, and all that was mortal was laid to rest by the side of his mother in the Maxwell cemetery."

MAYETTA, KANSAS, Mar. 8, 1899 - Dear Miss Oxley: The young people of Mayetta extend to our their heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your brother. The young men have been as kind to him in his late illness as though he was a brother of their own, and all have done by him, as they would have had others do toward them. Life's fitful fever has ended for him and he has entered the calm of life eternal. You will feel his loss keenly as does his father and other home friends, but "Let no mournful yesterday disturb thy peaceful heart, Nor let tomorrow scare thy rest with dreams of coming ill. Thy Maker is thy Changeless Friend. His love surround thee still." We will miss him, but our loss is nothing compared to yours. God, in His great, loving kindness, knew what was best and you must not think He has robbed you; He has only claimed His own. Life is short and soon we all will be gathered home, and how good it will be to have some one to meet us and welcome us there. We should all "look for the city which hath foundation, whose builder and maker is God. We ask that God will bless you: take your Bible and read 1 Cor. 15-35:58, and take your comfort from His own words. Sincerely your friends, Mayetta Young People. Per Mrs. W. P. Brockett."
