THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, September 5, 1907, page 1. "OBITUARY - Harvey T. Oxley was born February 19, 1897, and died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Oxley, three miles northeast of Maxwell, on Monday, September 2, 1907, aged 10 years, 6 months, and 13 days. The facts of the death of this boy in his tender age is quite touching and is the first one of the twenty-eight grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Oxley to succumb to death. On Saturday, August 24th he ran a snag from a dead weed into the hollow of his foot, which became inflamed somewhat and caused him trouble but by poulticing it and otherwise looking after the injury his parents thought it was getting along nicely. On last Saturday the whole family came in to the parental home and Harvey said he was feeling good, but on Sunday morning just before day he became so much worse that Dr. Joor was summoned and he said that the malady had all the appearance of lockjaw. All that was possible was done for the little sufferer but he continued to gradually grow worse until the end came on Monday morning. Harvey was a bright boy of lovable disposition and universally loved by his companions. Unselfish to a high degree he commanded the admiration of everyone. Last week preparations were made for him to start to school on Monday morning, but the Lord willed otherwise and claimed His own. The funeral was from the house at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. A. M. Lott, of the Maxwell M. E. church, after which the interment occurred in the Peoria cemetery. The pall bearers were Sam, Harvey and Carl Wescott, Burl and Floyd Bell and Frank Backus, all cousins. The funeral procession was a half mile long, showing the esteem in which the family is held as well as the love shown the boy."
