Pioneer Franklin Township Farmer Dead; Burial Friday

Special to the Journal:
Gilbert, March 4--Funeral services for Sam Wakefield, 57, native son of Franklin township, who died after a three weeks illness at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames early Wednesday, will be held at the Adams Funeral home in Ames Friday afternoon at 2:00, after which the body will be laid to rest in the family lot in the Gilbert cemetery. The service will be in charge of Rev. Russell of Gilbert Congregational church.

A lifelong resident of Story county, Wakefield was born of pioneer parents who were among the earliest settlers in this vicinity. He was born May 15, 1879 and had lived on farms near Ames all his life. He was married to Nannie Jones Sept. 21, 1909 in Fort Worth, Tex.

Surviving him are his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Laura Van Scoy and Mrs. Boyd Young of Ames, and Josephine at home; two brothers, Hannibal of Gilbert and John of Ames; and three sisters, Emma and Polly and Gilbert and Maude of Chariton. Also surviving a grandchild, Richard Van Scoy of Ames.
