Large Crowd Attends Services For Pioneer Slater Businessman

Funeral services for Archie L. Peterson were held in Slater Bethlehem Church Saturday, November 21, at 2 p. m. with a capacity crowd in attendance to pay their last tribute to their friend and business associate of many years. Officiating clergyman was Rev. A. D. Adix.

Honorary pallbearers were longtime Slater business associates and friends: H. J. Carlson, H. L. Buche, Roy Cole, E. C. Rood, Bert Sutter, Clarence Ryg, Nels J. Sabo, Albert Alleman, Dr. George J. Severson, Andrew Estrem, Oliver Newman and Wm. Van Gundy.

Active pallbearers were Stanley Heggen, Philip Lehman, Wayne Severson, Phil Rood, Wm. Schaudt and Rudy Zagar. Burial was in the Slater Municipal cemetery.

Peterson was the son of August and Sophia Peterson and was born June 25, 1884 at Sheldahl. He died November 18, 1964 at his home at the age of 80 years.

At the age of three he moved, with his parents, to Slater where his father established a clothing store. After attending Slater public schools he joined his father and brother, Henry in the clothing business.

On October 9 1912 he was united in marriage to Nellie J. Mason of Cambridge. They are parents of seven children. Peterson was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church since 1912, a charter member of the Slater Community Club and active in the progress of the community.

Many relatives and friends from a distance attended the last rites. Among the relatives were Stanley Peterson of West St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schaeffer and daughter, Patricia of Hayward, Wisc., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Workman of Denver, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Haag of Maryville, Mo., L. F. Embree of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. John Gardner of Sunnyvale, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hayes of Webster City, Mrs. George Peterson and Mrs. Lloyd Anderson of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cunningham of Indianola, Miss Kristi Jo Embree of Decorah, Mr. and Mrs. James Arendts and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Larson of Ames and Kermit Freeland of Cambridge.
