DEATHS

Dr. L. L. Bowie

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the Zearing Christian Church for Dr. L. L. Bowie who died Tuesday, May 9, at the Stewart Hospital in Lake City.

Burial was in the Zearing Cemetery.

Rev. Phil Kinton officiated, with graveside military rites. Masonic rites were conducted Friday evening at 8 in the Brouhard Funeral Home in Zearing.

Casket bearers were Kermit Helland, Floyd Steelman, Loren Norman, Wayne Jones, Albert Krueger and Dale Tisdale.

Honorary bearers were Ray Tisdale, Ray Hawk, I. S. Madison, Winifred Shultz and Walter Lund.

David Lundy was at the organ.

Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Karroll Vinsel and Mrs. Duane Reed.

Survivors include his wife Geraldine; one son, M. C. Bowie of Lake City; one daughter, Mrs. Louise Carver of Zearing; five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Two brothers Dr. Asa Bowie of Oskaloosa and George Bowie of Muscatine also survive.

Dr. Bowie was born March 2, 1879, in Muscatine County near Atalissa.

After graduating from West Liberty High School, he completed his medical education at the University of Iowa, Iowa City in 1905. He practiced medicine at Moorehead and other communities before moving to Zearing in 1920. He lived in the oldest house in town from which he practiced medicine, conducting a general practice in Zearing until the late 1930's. He recalled having delivered 15000 babies during his practice.

Dr. Bowie became associated with the Woodward State Hospital, but meanwhile he kept his residence in Zearing.

In 1942 he became a physician in the Iowa Soldiers Home Hospital in Marshalltown. He retired in the summer of 1958 and moved to a new house in Zearing.

He was married Aug. 8, 1906 to Geraldine Condit, a native of Milo, but who had moved to Westhope, N. D. in 1902 on a homestead.

Dr. Bowie served two years in World War I and was a member of the American Legion Post 116 at Zearing, a member of the Masonic Lodge, White Shrine Scottish rites and the Zearing Christian Church.
