MRS. ADDIE DOUGLASS

MAXWELL--Funeral services for Mrs. Annie E. Douglass were held on Sunday afternoon, February 1 at 2:00 in the Maxwell Presbyterian church with her pastor, Rev. Stanley Farmer in charge.

Jean Mohler accompanied by Ina Larson at the organ sang "Good Night and Good Morning" and "Crossing the Bar."

The beautiful floral tributes were arranged and cared for by Marian Martin and Gladys Peters.

Casketbearers were: Harold Tipton, V. O. Ray, Eldon Richardson, William Tipton, Harold Gamble and Wayne Sherman. Interment was in the Maxwell cemetery.

Obituary

Addie Elizabeth Gamble, daughter of J. D. and Elizabeth Mullen Gamble was born January 22, 1868, on a farm one mile west of Maxwell. She died on January 29, 1959, at her home in Maxwell, having lived her entire life in and around this community. She was one of 13 children of the pioneer Gamble family. She had six brothers and six sisters, all of whom have preceded her in death.

On June 10, 1893, Addie Gamble was married to I. W. Douglass, who was to become a prominent Maxwell attorney, and to this union were born three children: a daughter, Lucile, and two sons, Dudley and Emlin. Mrs. Douglass's husband and daughter both preceded her in death, Lucile in 1937 and Mr. Douglass in 1940.

Mrs. Douglass was a charter member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Maxwell and served in faithfully until her death. She was quite active in all departments of the church particularly as a teacher and taught at one time or another in every age level.

Mrs. Douglas was also interested in her community as well as her church and was a real contributor to the civic and cultural growth of Maxwell. To this end she helped organizations: The Maxwell Woman's Club, where she was a member of 62 years, and the Maxwell American Legion Auxiliary.

Before her marriage, Mrs. Douglass taught in a number of schools in Polk and Story Counties.

Mrs. Douglass leaves her two sons, Dudley of Maxwell, Emlin of Sac City, their wives, Grace and Fern; a granddaughter, Anne, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Maude Gamble of California and a host of friends.
