Obituary

Mrs. Fannie Porter Hunt was laid to rest Dec. 24, 1958 at the age of 98 years, 8 months and four days.

She was born in Washington, Iowa, in 1860, the fourth child of William and Elisabeth French. She was preceded in death by all her brothers and sisters. Her brother, Charlie French of San Jose, Calif., being the last, died one week before he reached his 105th birthday.

In April, 1885, she married Ira D. Porter. To this union five children were born: Amy Lemley of Yakima, Wash., Mrs. Bessie Martin, Mrs. Florence Oleson and Leola Gilmore, all of Nevada, Iowa, a son Louis Porter of Sioux Falls, S. D.

At the age of 45 years she was left a widow with the care of the small children. For a number of years she did dressmaking in the home. After the children were older she did practical nursing.

In 1937 she was married to William Hunt who died the following year.

She was a diligent student of the Bible and cherished certificates she received from Bible correspondence courses. She had many hobbies, gardening being one pursued up to the age of 90 years. Her home was made beautiful in the wintertime with many floweing plants.

At the age of 90 she gave up housekeeping and made her home in nursing home with her daughter Leola. She had been able to get about, going in the car and taking an interest in things in general, until June of last year. From which time her health failed steadily.

Five children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, besides nieces, nephews and a host of friends mourn her passing.
