THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 2, 1901, page 2, column 4. "W. A. Loomis Dead. - D. O. Dawson and his son, Claude, returned Thursday from Newton whither they had been called to attend the funeral of the formers cousin, W. A. Loomis, who passed from earth to life beyond on Monday evening, April 22d. We take the following from the NEWTON JOURNAL: One of Jasper county's upright, true and worthy citizens passed from earth to his home beyond, last Monday evening at nine o'clock. A year ago last March Mr. Loomis had the grippe and it left him with the asthma, which has kept him in poor health ever since. About a week ago he took cold, and this, added to his enfeebled condition caused his death, the last two days being attended with much suffering. William Almon Loomis was born in Portage county, Ohio, September 15, 1830. When he was about six or seven years old, the family moved to Henry county, Ohio, where he lived until the spring of 1859, when he came to Iowa, where he lived one year. He then went to Colorado and there lived for nine years. On the second of September, 1867, he was married to Miss Anna Penman, at Bolder City, Colo., and he and his wife lived there until December of 1868. They then came to Iowa and settled in Jasper county on the farm two miles northwest of Newton, which was the family homestead until March of 1896. Mr. and Mrs. Loomis then moved to Newton, on South Race street, and their daughter, Katie, with her husband, L. G. Edge, took charge of the farm. Newton has been their home ever since. Besides his wife, Mr. Loomis leaves to mourn his loss two daughters, Mary, now Mrs. S. C. Moffitt, of Sherman township, and Katie, now Mrs. L. G. Edge, of Newton township, and three grandsons. He and his wife lost one daughter, Lizzie, who was killed by the cars in 1884, at the age of thirteen. Mr. Loomis also has one surviving sister, Mrs. A. B. Condit, of Des Moines, who with her husband came to attend the funeral . Mr. Loomis has been for many years a member of the Presbyterian church, being zealous and faithful to all its interests. He was a devoted, loving husband and father, a kind, obliging neighbor, a man honest as the day, of pure habits and sterling, unblemished character, one who had the confidence and friendship of all who knew him."
