THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, November 3, 1898, page 1. "OBITUARY - On Friday morning, Oct. 28th, at three o'clock the Angel of death came in our midst and claimed as its victim David N. Longnecker, one of the earliest settlers of Polk county, having resided in the county since 1847 over half a century. Mr. Longnecker was 61 years old at the time of his death and having spent almost his entire life in this community, he had an acquaintance far and wide, and it can be truthfully said that there was never a man lived in our neighborhood who made more of a sacrifice to visit and help take care of the sick than did Mr. Longnecker; and when on the 4th day of July he met with the sad accident that has since caused his death his friends had a partial chance to repay his kindnesses. Deceased left a large family to mourn their sad loss and it seemed sad indeed for them to see the husband and father who had been so kind to them through life, laid away to his long rest, but it was God's divine will and we have to submit. The funeral service was held at the Buena Vista church Sunday at 11 o'clock and was one of the largest attended ever held in this vicinity. Rev. Scull took for his text the words, "Who art thou, and whither goest thou" and dwelt at length on the beauty of a trust in God…"
