THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, July 28, 1932, page 1, column 4. "MRS. GEO. LINK, SR. - Christena Guhring, daughter of John and Kathrine Guhring, was born in Wittenberg, Germany, January 20, 1848, and departed this life July 23, 1932, at the age of 84 years, six months and three days. She was united in marriage to John George Link in May, 1869, and to this union were born fourteen children, eight sons and six daughters. The sons are: Martin, George, William, John and Leonard, of Maxwell; Charles, of Moville, and Bert, of Collins. The daughters are: Mrs. Anna Cairns and Mrs. Viola Witmer, of Maxwell; Mrs. Clara Hawkins, of Collins, and Mrs. Kathrine Miller of Des Moines. The three children preceding her in death are Mrs. Christena Morrison, who passed away March 12, 1921; Rose Ellen and an infant son. Mrs. Link, with her husband and daughter, Anna, came to America in the year 1871, residing in Philadelphia, Pa., with an uncle and aunt and then came to Washington township, Polk county, Iowa, where she resided for 38 years. In the year 1910 she and her husband moved to Maxwell where she has since lived. She has been a most patient sufferer during the past four years and has been most tenderly cared for by her children. She was converted and united with the Lutheran church in early life, later upon coming to America, transferred her membership to the Evangelical church at Loring. She was a firm believer and faithful to her Master until called home. Her husband preceded her in death August 8, 1928. Mrs. Link is the last of a family of seven children, five sisters and one brother. All lived in Germany with the exception of one sister, Mrs. Anna Kopf, who came to this country and resided in Michigan. She leaves to mourn her departure eleven children, twenty-seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. "Your tender, loving guidance Like a light upon the way, Makes clear the path I travel. And guides me, day by day. Your friendly cheer was always mine. Your love no ill can smother. In all the world no friend like you. God bless you richly, mother." Funeral services were held at the Loring church Monday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. Ivan La Favre, She was tenderly carried to her last resting place, in Mt. Zion cemetery, by her grandsons, Geo. Cairns, Harold Link, Clarence Link, Virgil Miller, Raymond Miller and Carroll Witmer. Those in attendance at the funeral from outside the community were: Will Fash, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Miller, Mrs. Minnie Paules and daughter, of Laurel; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Link, Mrs. Ernest Niffenegger, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Hester, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Dora Miller and family, of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Link and sons, Dale and Rollie, of Moville, and Mrs. Harold Gamble of Cedar Falls. CARD OF THANKS - To our neighbors and friends, who so kindly assisted us during the illness and following the death of our beloved mother, we desire to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation. May God's richest blessing be with you. The Children."
