Obituary of Bert M. Kirkman THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE Maxwell, Story County, Iowa Thursday 30 Aug 1962, page 4: "HUSBAND DIES SIX DAYS ATER WIFE SERVICES HELD MONDAY Bert M. Kirkman, 80, former Maxwell resident, died at the Evangelical Hospital at Marshalltown, Friday afternoon, where he had been a patient since Thursday. His wife died a few days before on August 18. He had been in failing health for several months. Born Oct. 5, 1881 near Sergant Bluff, Ia., he was the son of Daniel and Louise Miller Kirkman. At an early age the family moved to the family homestead two miles southeast of Maxwell where he received his education and grew up. On Dec. 12, 1903, he was married to Alta Hutson and lived for a short time in North Dakota, before returning to Maxwell where they made their home. He was a member of the Maxwell Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son in infancy, and one daughter, Wilma Irons. Survivors are an only son, Willis of Marshalltown and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were held at the Peoria Methodist Church, southeast of Maxwell at 2 p. m., Monday. The Rev. Howard Marty officiating. Burial was in the Peoria Cemetery.
