MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, October 10, 1907, page 8: "OBITUARY Clara Etta Hutson was born in Peoria City, Polk county, Iowa, February 6, 1886, and departed this life Saturday, October 5, 1907, aged twenty-one years, seven months and twenty-nine days. She was married to Lenford Kirkman, July 1, 1903. To this union was born two children, Lillia Beatrice, aged three years and four months, and Dorothy May, aged three and a half months. The deceased united with the M. P. church at Peoria when she was twelve years old, in which communion she has lived an upright Christian life until her death. Etta was a pure, sweet girl; a faithful, loving wife and mother, always thought of others before herself, and was never so happy as when doing some little kindness for those she loved. She valued friends and friendships very highly and always had a kind word for those who ministered to her during her last sickness. She was patient and hopeful through all her sufferings to the very last. The dread disease, consumption, fastened itself upon her about four months ago, and all that medical skill and loving hands could perform was done, but to no avail. A husband, two children, father, mother, four sisters and a host of relatives and friends mourn her loss. A beautiful life has gone to its reward, which is certainly a place very near the eternal great white throne. The funeral services were held in the Peoria City M. P. church, Monday, October 7, 1907, at 3 p. m., conducted by Rev. A. Q. Gharrett, of Osceola, assisted by the pastor of the church, Rev. T. F. Martin, and the noble choir, which rendered most valuable assistance in singing beautiful and appropriate hymns. The remains were laid to rest in the Peoria City cemetery, with a very beautiful and impressive ceremony, to await the final call. T. F. Martin, pastor. CARD OF THANKS - The relatives desire to thank their many friends for their assistance during her last illness and death, also for the beautiful floral gifts as tokens of friendship and love - Her husband, parents and sisters."
