THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, August 9, 1956, page 1, column _. “DORA SHERMAN JOHN – Dora Belle Sherman John was born near Stanwood, Iowa, October 21, 1878 and departed this life August 1, 1956. She was the daughter of N. N. Sherman and Alice Sherman who moved to Maxwell in 1902. In 1904 she was united in marriage to Clark John, to this union was born one son Dale. As a girl she joined the Christian Church and changed her membership to the Presbyterian Church at the time of her marriage. She was a member of the Women’s Literary Club, The Phillips Community Club and the Women’s Society of the church. In 1954 Mr. and Mrs. John were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary together. Mrs. John was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister, Clara Stephens. She is survived by her son and a daughter-in-law, her two granddaughters, Kathy and Kris, one sister, Coral McKay, three brothers, W. A. Sherman, of Marion, Iowa; Elsworth Sherman, of Garden City, Kansas and A. M. Sherman, of LaMar, Colorado and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, August 3, 1956 at the Maxwell Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Robert Spencer, of Nevada officiating. Jean Mohler sang “Sunrise” and “In the Garden” accompanied by Madeline Summitt. The beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Grace Douglass and Elizabeth Davis. Casket bearers were L. M. Pearce, Ray Deo, James Beal, Loran Davis, Albert Birchmier and Dorus Myers. Interment was in the Maxwell Cemetery.” “CARD OF THANKS – We want to thank all our friends and neighbors, who were so kind during our recent loss. Your thoughtfulness was deeply appreciated.
