Merle A Chance, 58, died at the Veteran's Hospital in Iowa City Friday.

The son of Minnie Wood and James A Chance, he was born in Zearing December 19, 1899. He was baptized January 10, 1915 at the Christian church in Zearing. He was a member of the church until his death.

He married Gladys Marshall February 18, 1918. They had two children, Bernice, now Mrs. Malmin Olson of Radcliffe, and Edgar, North Augusta, South Carolina.

Mr Chance farmed in the Zearing and McCallsburg communities until 1942. He entered the military service then and lived at Osage after his discharge until his death.

Mr. Chance was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Romelfanger. He is survived by his children; four sisters, Mrs. Lola Lutz of Nevada, Mrs. Florine Dudley of St. Anthony, Mrs. Florice Deal of Iowa Falls and Mrs. Eloise Sterling of Zearing; two brothers, Floyd of Brooten, Minnesota and Virgil of Zearing; and five grandchildren.
