E. H. Hilleman Rites Were Held Here on Sunday

NEVADA--Funeral services for Eugene H. Hilleman were held from the Ryan Funeral Home Sunday, Aug. 10, 1958, at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. W. R. Tuttle officiating.

Mrs. Norman Dobson, organist, played a number of selections before and after the service.

The many beautiful floral offerings were arranged by Miss Millicent Fagerburgh and Ms. Kenneth Nelson.

The casket bearers were Merwin Jennings, Howard Mills, Charles Stowe, William Tipton, John H. Vader, and Gary Wells.

Burial was in the Hillside cemetery at State Center.

Masonic services at the graveside were in charge of W. E. Horine of Nevada Masonic Lodge No. 99 of which the deceased was a member.

Obituary

Eugene Henry Hilleman was born on a farm north of State Center on March 21, 1882, one of twelve children of Augusta Kuenecke and Henry Hilleman. He lived on the family farm until as a young man he moved into the town of State Center where he engaged in business.

On June 6, 1906, he was united in marriage to Zadie Ann Wall of State Center. To this union were born a daughter, Margaret, a son Carl, and daughters Dorothy and Esther.

The family resided in State Center, Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids and Boone, and in January 1933 moved to Nevada where Mr. Hilleman was engaged in the implement business.

After suffering a heart attack in September of 1953, he retired from active work but was still able to live a normal life with his family and friends and enjoy several vacation trips with relatives. On June 6, 1956, Mr. and Mrs. Hilleman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

As a boy, he was confirmed in the Lutheran church but after his marriage transferred his membership to the Methodist church. He formerly belonged to the Knights of Pythias and the Order of the Eastern Star of which he was a Past Patron. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and Masonic Lodge.

After a short illness, he passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday morning, Aug. 7, at the age of 76 years, 5 month and 17 days.

He was preceded in death by his son Carl, his parents, two sisters and seven brothers.

He is survived by his wife, his three daughters, Margaret and Esther Hilleman, and Dorothy (Mrs. Thomas H.) McLaury, a granddaughter Mary Jean McLaury, all of Nevada, and two brothers, Henry and Milt Hilleman of State Center. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral of E. H. Hilleman were the following relatives from State Center: M. E. Hilleman, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Conklin, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nichols, Miss Edith Hilleman, Miss Lois Hilleman, Miss Ilda Hilleman, Gayheart Hilleman, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Hilleman, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hilleman, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Eckhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hilleman, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Hilleman, Arnold Hilleman, Ronald Hilleman.

Mrs. Minnie Hilleman, Mrs. Marie Hilleman, Mrs. Lil Stouffer and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Hilleman, all relatives from State Center and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hilleman and Karen of Marshalltown.

Other relatives included John Goecke, Will Goecke, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goecke, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Goecke and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Goecke of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eckhardt of Des Moines; Mrs. Milt Wensel of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Payne Abrams of Toledo; Burton Carpenter of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Wayland Wall of Cedar Rapids. Friends included Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Veren of Albion, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Woodward of Cambridge, Mrs. Mae Fisher and Miss Florence Gerlick, Friends from State Center; Max Conn, Jacob Neff, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baird and John Cessford of Ames.
