THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, January 23, 1919, page 1. "JAMES E. HARRAND - Jas. E. Harrand died last Friday at the Iowa Sanitarium at Nevada during an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Harrand had been ailing for some time and finally submitted to an operation, but too late, peritonitis having developed and his condition being such that he was beyond medical or surgical help. His death came as a shock to the community, few of whom knew of his illness until learning of his passing away. James Edward Harrand, only child of Charles and Eliza Harrand, was born in Yorkshire, England, January 29, 1862, and departed this life January 17, 1919, aged fifty-six years, eleven months and seventeen days. He was left motherless at the age of seven years and afterwards made his home with his grandparents until he was twenty-one, when he came to this country, living one year in Minnesota, coming then to Collins, Iowa, in the spring of 1883. He was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Bloomfield December 6, 1890. To this union six children were born, the eldest being Mrs. Lily Parr, John, Violet, Charles, Rose and Sylvia being at home. He was baptized in the Church of England when a child and always held to this faith through life. He was also a member of the Mystic Workers of the World. "Farewell, dear father, sweet thy rest, Weary with years and worn with pain, Farewell, till in some happy place We shall behold thy face again. 'Tis ours to miss thee, all our years, And tender memories of thee keep Thine in the Lord to rest, for so He giveth His beloved sleep." The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Collins Sunday at 1 p. m. by C. R. Moore, and the body was laid to rest in the Collins cemetery. The pall bearers were: John J. John, E. B. Clarke, Alva Pritchard, Roscoe Pritchard, Squire McConnell, and Andrew Pinck. CARD OF THANKS - We wish to than those who so kindly assisted us with king acts and words of sympathy during the sickness and death of our beloved father. And also for the beautiful flowers given by the neighbors and friends. - Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Parr, John, Violet, Charles, Rose and Sylvia Harrand."
