MRS. MARY SMITH

COLLINS -- Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mary Smith Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church in Rhodes with the Rev. Carl Crouse in charge assisted by the Rev. Edward Shuey. Mrs. E. H. Haas presided at the organ while Mrs. Ronald Good and Martin Richeson sang.

Casket bearers were six of her grandsons namely: Larry Smith, Seth Smith, Duane Smith, Everett Smith, Robert Smith and Jack Gray.

Burial was in Eden cemetery at Rhodes in charge of Ryans of Nevada.

Life Sketch

Mary Alice Smith was born Nov. 25, 1871 at Ashton, Ill. and was the daughter of Charles and Mary Jane Walker. She was married to Seth Smith at Melbourne Aug. 8, 1889. Mr. Smith preceded her in death.

She was a resident of the Rhodes community for 37 years and died at the McVey Nursing Home where she had been a few months after a long illness.

Surviving are seven sons and three daughters, Ora and Walker Smith of Collins, Paul D. of Maxwell; Vance of Mountain Home, Ark.; Seth M. and Mrs. Leah Lathrom of Licking, Mo.; Hassell and Mrs. Ella Carlson of Marshalltown; Mrs. Lyall Gray of Rhodes and Linton of Olympia, Wash.

There are also 30 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, three brothers, Charles Walker of Nevada, Lester of Rhodes and Fred of Clinton and sister, Mrs. A. F. Pike of Marshalltown.
