Funeral Services Held at Colo for Mrs. Mary Devine

Colo, July 16 -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Devine were held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's church at Colo with Rev. N. A. Steffen officiating at low mass.

Many beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. Eva Silliman and Mrs. Clare Niland. Four solos were sung by Mrs. Rodger Hopkins accompanied at the church organ by Mrs. Frances O'Donnell. They were "Mother Dear Oh Pray For Me," "Ave Maria," "Know Ye That Angels," and "Vevi Jesu."

The pall bearers were Charles Bruce, Rodger Hopkins, Frank Andrew, William Donaldson, Joseph Hopkins and Mart McCoy.

The interment was in the St. James cemetery beside her husband who preceded her in death.

Mary L. LaShonse was born at Ottawa, Canada, on January 25, 1849 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mayme Berka of Colo July 9, 1940, at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 15 days. She was the daughter of Abraham and Mary Murphy LaShonse, both Canadian. At the age of 12 years, she moved from Canada to Troy Grove, Illinois and on October 5, 1876 was united in marriage to Patrick Devine of LaSalle, Illinois. In 1895 they, with their 3 children moved to a farm northeast of Colo in Story County. Later, when Mr. Devine passed away, 35 years ago, Mrs. Devine moved to Colo and has been making her home with her daughters of the Colo and Collins vicinity.

She leaves to mourn her death her three children, Mrs. Alice Sinnott of Collins, Mayme Berka and Joseph Devine of Colo. She also has four living brothers and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Munday and Thomas LaShonse of Kewanee, Ill., and Alec and Abe LaShonse of Chicago, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She had lived almost century of well filled Christian years. Although in the last few years, she was never strong, she kept up her strength with prayer and was only bed fast three weeks before she passed away. All was done that children, friends and doctors could do to lighten her suffering until God called his child home.
