Funeral Services for J. J. Hoversten Saturday Afternoon

Roland, Feb. 22 -- Funeral services for the late J. J. Hoversten, who passed away Tuesday forenoon at his home in the southeast part of town from a lingering illness, will be held Saturday afternoon, with prayer service at the home at 1:30 and at Salem's church at 2 p. m., with the Rev. Olaf Holen in charge. The deceased was the oldest member of Salem's church.

Jacob Jacobson Hoversten was born in Stavanger, Norway, Dec. 18, 1854. His father passed away when he was 14 years old, and at the age of 16 he accompanied his mother to America, coming to Marshall county, where they lived one year.

He was married to Dora Serena Jacobson on Feb. 28, 1888 and they came to Roland, settling on their farm southwest of town, where they lived until 1915, when they moved to St. Paul, Minn., where they lived two years coming back to Roland in 1917 moving into their new home, where he passed away.

His wife died three years ago. He is survived by four sons, William of St. Paul, Minn., Joseph of Roland, Henry and Elmer of Ames; three daughters, Mrs. Barney Durby and Mrs. C. A. Fagerland of Roland and Miss Sylvia Hoversten, who lived at home; one sister, Miss Ellen Hoversten of Eagle Grove and ten grandchildren.
