DEATHS

Last rites for Art Chandler were held Dec. 4 in the EUB Church in Zearing with Rev. Richard Miller officiating. Burial was in the Collins Evergreen Cemetery. Casket bearers were Kermit Helland, Arthur Cook, Eugene Henson, Donald Grimm and William Brown, Jr.

Hartwell Preston Chandler (Art) was born at Union June 20, 1882 the son of Hartwell and Jennie Chandler. Three sons and five daughters were born to this union, all preceding him in death except for one sister.

At an early age he moved with his parents to Eldora where his father owned a barber shop. As a young man he went to Omaha and worked as a conductor for the Omaha and Council Bluffs Railway. Later he was employed by a wholesale paint store.

Mr. Chandler was united in marriage to Marie Louise Sievers Sept. 25, 1907. In 1913 he made plans to go into farming so in horse and buggy he took his family 40 miles to live on a ten acre farm near Corley.

Several years later he moved into the Zearing Community where he farmed, raised his family, and eventually retired. During his active years he drove a Zearing school bus, being one of the original drivers of the horse-drawn buses. Except for three years, when he and his wife worked in the Kaizer shipyards at Portland, Ore. during the second world war, he has lived in Zearing.

A member of the E. U. B. Church in Zearing, for many years, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, in 1957 and is survived by one son, Hal, of Omaha, Nebr., a daughter, Ruth, Mrs. H. Z. Hess of San Jose, Calif., six grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Daisy Larson of Security, Colorado, and one step sister, Mrs. Violet Stone of Zearing.
