From The Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, January 22, 1914.
Lars L. Onestein was born in Onstein, Norway August 8, 1872, and with his parents he immigrated to this country in the year 1874. His occupation was that of farming until the fall of 1910, when his health began to fail so he moved to Roland where was his home until his death. March 17, 1909 he was united in marriage to Miss Oline Eggland of this place. Mr. Onestein had not been well for several years and heart trouble being the immediate cause of his death, Sunday morning January 18, 1914. He lived a quiet life and his death came gradually upon him in a still and quiet manner. He expressed his willingness to leave this sinful earth when called upon by the Almighty God and professed that it is only through the blood of Jesus that a sinner is saved. And we know that Jesus by his resurrection gives us not only power to arise from spiritual death, but He also gives us power to walk in newness of life. As Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also walk in newness of life. The death of Mr. Onstein reveals this fact to us. Just why he should be taken away at this time is not known to us and why he should depart from his loving wife after a happy married life of only about four years is also strange to us, but we k now that God does all things well and if we put our trust in Jesus and live according to His word He says that he will be with us even unto the end of the world and if He is with us it makes no difference who is against us. He died for every one of us and He loves us all alike. Mr. Onstein had these words with him on his death bed. To his loving wife we can only say live with these words and you shall meet your husband on that beautiful shore when happy union will remain forever. Besides his wife he leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his death. Burial services were held this afternoon from Bergens church and was conducted by Rev. Lerud. The funeral services were well attended and the floral offerings were both numerous and beautiful. The body was laid to rest in the Roland cemetery.
