Grant Bates Funeral Held Last Wednesday

COLLINS.-- Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell for Grant Bates, long-time resident of the Collins area who died at Nevada Monday at the advanced age of 87 1/2 years. Rev. Randall Sims of the Christian church of Maxwell officiated.

Music was furnished by Alice Gooden, soloist, accompanied by Madeline Summit.

Casket bearers were Vernon Holmes, Ervin Holmes Orrin Smith, Elmer Smith, Henry Duesbury and Clair Stone.

Obituary

Grant Bates, one of twelve children of John and Miriam Bates, was born on the home farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Collins on August 21, 1869 and died Jan. 28, 1957. He lived the greater part of his life there. Of this family there is one surviving, a brother, S. A. Bates. There are also several nieces and nephews.

Relatives present at the funeral were S. A. Bates, Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Smith, Vernon Holmes, Hazel Holmes, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Snyder, Mrs. Florence Hand, all of Collins, and Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Holmes of Clemons. Others in attendance were Henry Duesbury, Clair Stone, Charles Carson and Irving Phares of Collins.

Interment was in the Peoria cemetery south of Maxwell with the Cooper morticians of Maxwell in charge.
