THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 19, 26, & April 3, 1959 (the way the date reads) page 3, column 2 - 3. "OBITUARY - Clara Mae Gardner. - Clara Mae Gardner, daughter of Christopher and Mary Belle Halterman was born August 18, 1885 near Delphi, Iowa and passed away Feb. 27 following a stroke at the Hamilton Nursing home in Des Moines at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 9 days. Mrs. Gardner had been hospitalized since the middle of November in Winnebago and Mankato, Minnesota before coming to the nursing home January 2, 1959. She moved to Story County when she was five years of age and in 1903 was united in marriage to Edward Vasey who passed away in May 1930. To this union eight children were born: Ralph Vasey, Maude Sager, Hazel Milligan, Nancy Newhard, Opal Gardner, Maurice Vasey (deceased), Lawrence and Warren Vasey all of whom were born on a farm 2 miles north of Collins. Preceding her in death besides her husband Edward Vasey and son Maurice were her parents and three sisters. On January 14, 1948 she was united in marriage to Stephen H. Gardner in Austin, Minn., moved to a farm at Cogswell, North Dakota, where they lived until the year 1950, when they moved to Winnebago, Minn. At an early age she united with the Christian church in Collins. Everyone who knew Mrs. Gardner will remember her as a most wonderful mother, who always took time to help others in sickness or need. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Stephen, her children, several stepchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Della Davis of Maxwell and Mrs. Minta Whitney of Radcliffe, two brothers, Joe Halterman of Maxwell, and Willis Halterman of Stockton, California. There are also many grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren,** nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Collins Christian church with Rev. Robert McDonald officiating. Doris Holland and Mary Tomlinson sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "The Lord Knows Why" accompanied by Virginia Fertig. The beautiful floral sprays were cared for by Dorothy Holland, Naomi Pointer, and Harold Hale. Casketbearers** were Donald Titus, Floyd Oswalt, Fred Etnier, Kenneth Tomlinson, Wm. Gilley and Loyd** Holland. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Collins." "CARD OF THANK. - We are sincerely grateful to friends and neighbors for their many kind acts of sympathy during our sad bereavement. Our sincere thanks and gratitude for all those comforting acts.
