Last Rites For M. P. Mathison Held Here Sunday

Funeral services for the late M. P. Mathison, 67, longtime resident of Story county, whose death occurred Thursday morning at his home north of Ames, were held from the Ryan Funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Mrs. A. E. Hale of Nevada at the piano.

The many beautiful flowers were arranged by Mrs. Kenneth Kinsey and Mrs. R. Fred Nelson.

The pall bearers were Frank Adams, R. Fred Nelson, Walter Fossil, Ralph Hillis, Clarence Jacobsen and Don Pauk.

Born in Denmark

Marthinus P. Mathison, Route 2, Ames, was born in Denmark, Sept. 10, 1881, a son of John and Christine Mathison. He came to his country when ten years of age and with the exception of ten years that he was in the automobile business in Eagle Grove and Humboldt he had lived his entire life in this county in Story county.

On May 14, 1901, he was married in Nevada to Emma May Peterson.

During the time R. W. Nebergall was Story county sheriff, Mr. Mathison served a deputy sheriff of Story county for one year.

The Mathison home has been north of Ames for the past 11 years.

Mr. Mathison is survived by his wife, Emma, by the daughter Leota at home, and by the daughter Vera, Mrs. Vernon Randau of Los Angeles, Calif.

He also leaves five brothers, P. K. Mathison of Nevada, Amiel and Arthur of Ames, Earl and Clarence of Los Angeles, Calif, and five sisters, Mrs. E. E. Everett of Independence, Mrs. Vernon Dickey, Mrs. Fred Korfe [should be Corfe], and Miss Elva Mathison of Los Angeles, Calif.

He also leaves one granddaughter.

Large Attendance

A large attendance of relatives and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to a man who had lived many years in Story county earning and deserving the esteem of everyone.

The many beautiful flowers and offerings for missions in his honor were testimonials of the high regard in which he had been held.

Among those who had come from out of the state to attend the last rites were Mrs. Hannah Larson and son, Marvin, of Elmore, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Larson of St. Peter, Minn.
