C. E. CRAIN DIED VERY SUDDENLY

HAD BEEN RESIDENT OF NEVADA FOR THE PAST 45 YEARS

C. E. Crain, 82, died at his home at 1220 Third street about 11 o'clock Wednesday evening as a result of a sudden attack of pneumonia and other complications.

Mr. Crain, while not well for some time, had been up during the evening and spent the hours with his daughters until at 8:00, when he complained of not feeling well. The family physician was called and it was at once realized that his condition had suddenly grown critical and his passing was sudden.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon. There will be a prayer at the Morfoot funeral home after which the body will be taken to the Memorial Lutheran church, where the funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Hugh E. Yost, after which interment will be made in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. Crain had been a resident of Nevada for about 45 years, part of the time engaged actively in the mercantile business but of more recent years retired because of the condition of his health.

For the past quarter of a century he had lived with his daughter Mrs. Mae Kinsey and their family and her life had been one of devotion to the aged and invalided father. During the past year the daughter Mrs. Topleman had been here also and been with the father sister in the home.

Mr. Crain was a business man of excellent repute in his home active days but of later years had been prevented from such activities. He kept up his interest in public affairs, however, and was considered one of the substantial citizens of the community; although prevented from taking an active part.

Chester Eugene Crain was born in Chicago, Ill., July 20, 1845 and died in Nevada, Iowa, March 7, 1928, aged 82 years, 7 months and 26 days. He was raised in Freeport, Ill., attended high school and graduated from business college there. Afterwards moved to Lena, Ill. where he was married to Miss Mary Catherine Stahl May 16, 1868. A few years later he moved back to Freeport and was engaged in the mercantile business for several years, and in 1882 he came to Nevada and was engaged in the grocery business until her retired from active business about 33 years ago, on account of failing health being a sufferer from rheumatism for many years.

Mrs. Crain died March 18, 1884 leaving a family of six children, four sons and two daughters who survive. The children are Ira Edwin Crain of Anoka, Minn., Clara Dell Toepleman of Henderson, N. C., Margaret May Kinsey of Nevada, George Royal Crain of St. James, Minn., Bertrum Stanley Crain, of Los Angeles, Calif., and William Boyd Crain of Oakland, Calif. In 1888 Mr. Crain was again married to Miss Katherine McDonald who is now deceased, leaving one daughter Florence, Mrs. Frank Murtough of Tacoma, Wash.

Besides the children there are 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Mary E. Boyd of McKinney, Texas, and besides many dear friends who will miss his pleasant and friendly smile. He always had a kind word for all little children and was a great favorite with them and was known by them a "Grandpa Crain."
