HOWARD TOWNSHIP CITIZEN PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY

Pioneer Found Dead in Bed, Heart Failure the Cause, Discovered By Wife at Five o'clock Sunday Morning and Could Have Been Dead For Hours.

Knudt P. Boyd was born in Skaanevik Norway May 28, 1845 and in the year 1866 he came to this country and settled down in Kendall County, Ill. April 19, 1870 he married Betsey Thorson also of Kendall County. Ten years later they came to Story County, Ia. where he has since resided. He was a man who united sound sense with strong convictions and a candid outspoken temper, eminently fitted to mold the rude elements of pioneer society into form and consistency and aid in raising a high standard citizenship in this neighborhood. How much this community owe him and such as he, it is impossible to estimate though it would be a grateful task to trace his influence through some of the more direct channels to his various characters of husband and father, of neighbor and friends to speak of the sons and daughters he has reared to perpetuate his name and emulate his virtues. But is not within the scope of this brief article to do so. It was the writers good fortune to have known him as long as we can remember. We can remember how we used to ask father when Knudt "Boje" would come to our house again, as he always had a cheering remark to us boys. We remember while we lived on the farm he had some hay put up east of our pace and incidentally would stop over night, and we only knew him more highly as the hears passed by. A week a go today we conversed with him, today we miss his friendly greeting. When the Record last came to you, the deceased was upon our streets, greeting his many friends with a happy good morning. Today all that was mortal of him is laid to rest in our silent city. Funeral services are held in Salem's church today, Rev. Hjortholm officiating. He leaves a wife, and was the father of twelve children, ten of whom remain to mourn his death namely: Mrs. S. J. Michaelson, Mrs. S. L. Hammersland, Arthur Boyd, Mrs. A. I. Eggland, Carrie Boyd, Alfred Boyd, Emma Boyd, Kate Boyd, Henry Boyd and Meyer Boyd. A brother Peter Boyd of Story City, and a sister Mrs. Brandeland of Radcliffe, Iowa.
