Rites Held Wed. For Mrs. T. E. Thorson
Funeral services were held at the Cambridge Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, April 22, for Mrs. T. E. Thorson. Rev. Stoutland conducted the services assisted by Rev. Buland.
Elman Sheldahl and Mrs. Laverne Richardson sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and Rev. Stoutland sang "Den Store Vide Flok," a Norwedian hymn.
Interment was in the Palestine Cemetery beside the husband.
Pallbearers were Leonard Jacobson, Clifford Applegate, John Rainey, Ivan Elliott, Gunnar Sochus and Sanford Heggen.
Relatives and friends from a distance attending were from Hadley, Minn, Des Moines, Delhi, Dallas Center, Ames, Story City, Marshalltown, Radcliffe, Huxley, Maxwell and Nevada.
Obituary
Martha Serina Wagley was born in Vaare, Norway, April 28, 1863, of her parents, Johannes and Brita Wagley and passed away at Nevada, Iowa, on April 19, at the age of 89 years and 11 months. In nine days she would have reached the age of 90.
At the age of 20 she emigrated from her native country and settled at Slater, Iowa.
On January 28, 1893, she was united in marriage to Thor E. Thorson. They made their home in Chicago for two years, then came to Iowa where they made their home.
To this union eight children were born, four girls and four boys. One daughter, Agnes passed away at the age of ten. One son, John passed away March 15, 1953. The six remaining are Mrs. Bertha Jacobson, Hadley, Minn., Mrs. Mabel Benson, Nevada, Iowa, Mrs. Thelma Alsager, Radcliffe, Iowa, Eric, Cambridge, Iowa, Telene, Nevada, Iowa, and Arthur, Van Nuys, California.
Besides the children, 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives survive.
Since the death of her husband on April 1, 1930, she has made her home with her children.
Preceding her in death besides the husband, son and daughter, were her parents, one sister and five brothers.
