Last Rites for R. M. Bainter at Zearing Tuesday
Zearing, Jan. 30--Funeral services for R. M. Bainter were held in the Evangelical Church at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, Jan. 23, with Rev. C. L. Fuller in charge. Burial was in the Zearing Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ralph Norton, John Gilmore, Harry Dunn, Tom Gilmore, Roy Vinsel, Chas. Norman. Mrs. Lela Adams and Mrs. Ruth Steelman took care of the flowers.
Mrs. Kenneth Weaver of Union sang, "Safe In the Arms of Jesus," "Sometime We'll Understand," and "There'll Be No Fears In Paradise," with Joyce Adams at the piano.
Relatives and friends in attendance from a distance were rs. Ed Williams of Sac City, Mr and Mrs. Sie Huffacker of Baxter, Mrs. Early Elliott of Liscomb, Mr. and Mrs. Price Miller of Fernald, Mrs. Maude Andrews, Mrs. G. L. LaPlant, Miss Luena Wallwork of St. Anthon, Mrs. Don Dakins of Los Angeles, Calif. and possibly others.
Rhonaldo Mathew Bainter, son of Thomas and Elmira Bainter, was born at LaHarpe, Ill., on May 7, 1859. He moved to this community as a young man of 21, and two years later was united in marriage on August 22, 1882, to Iba Meekins. The newly-weds spent one year at LaHarpe, Ill., and then moved back to this community, first to Hardin county, then a short time in Marshall county, and then to a farm in Story county where they lived for 50 years, celebrating their Golden Wedding at that place. They moved to Zearing in the spring of 1936 where the wife died in April of '37.
Three children were born to this union, one of whom, Altha May, died at 10 years of age. The last of a family of four children, he departed this life at the Iowa City University Hospital from Uremic Poisoning. He was stricken first with pneumonia and taken to the Mary Greeley hospital at Ames and then transferred to Iowa City where he died on January 20, at the ripe age of 85 years, 7 months and 13 days.
Surviving him are his daughter Tecia Ruxton of Zearing, Ia., and Jesse Bainter of Long Beach, Calif. There are also two grandsons and two great grandsons.
The Bainter family when together, were members of the Pleasant Hill M. E. Church, retaining their membership there until that church ceased to exist.
