Funeral Service for Popular Woman of Slater Neighborhood

Slater, Mar. 13--Funeral services for Mrs. Lester Halverson were held Friday afternoon, 1:30 o'clock at the home and two o'clock at the Bethlehem Lutheran church. The church was filled to its utmost capacity with sorrowing relatives and friends.

The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. E. R. Rorem. The scripture reading was the twenty-third Psalm, and the text was Rolmans 5-3. Mrs. A. J. Reinertson, Mrs. C. A. Larson and Mrs. C. H. Hedberg cared fro the many beautiful floral offerings. A large number of gifts of money were presented to the mission in her memory.

Miss Leona Fausch of Des Moines sang, "In the Garden", a solo, "Carried on Wings of Snow" was sung by Mrs. Lars Kloster of Des Moines. The Riis quartette sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Land."

The pall bearers were C. R. Lande, C. R. Laughrige, C. A. Larson, A. J. Reinertson, L. A. Nelson and Phil Rood. Burial was made in the Slater cemetery.

Mildred Ryen was born in Slater, January 6, 1903 and died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital, Des Moines, March 7, 1939 at the age of 36 years, 2 months and 1 day. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Ryen. Her father died a number of years ago.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1917 and graduated from the Slater high school in 1920. After her graduation she attended Drake University in Des Moines where she studied music and drama. She also studied music in Ames.

Her marriage to Lester Halverson took place Octboer 15th, 1922. Four children were born to this union. Two of them Dorothy Elaine and David Glenn passed away in infancy. Mrs. Halverson always took an active part in the church and social circles of the community. She was a devoted wife and mother. Although her health had partly failed the past few years, friends did not realize her condition was so serious. An operation had been planned but death came just a few minutes before, from a heart attack. A large circle of relatives and friends will miss the sunshine of her presence.

She is survived by her husband and two children, Phillip, 6 years and Helen Ruth 6 months, her invalid mother, Mrs. Belle Ryen of Des Moines; two brothers, Willard of Des Moines and Thomas of Geneva, Minn., and a large number of relatives.

Halverson of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hauskins, Mr. and Mrs. Joris Severton of McCallsburg; Mesdames Burton Gandrup; Art Gandrup, Edith Sinn, and Erick Ihle of Story City; Miss Josie Ryg, Miss Irma Sydness, Mrs. Helen Bates and Mr. and Mrs. Laird Harris of Ames, Mrs. Ed Erickson and daughter, Mrs. Bernice Waugh and Helen and Mrs. Jane Erickson of Roland and Lars Richardson of Kenyon, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ole Severeid, Mrs. Milford Lewis, Mrs. Edith Richardson of Cambridge.
